Wispr Flow, a voice-powered writing app, just raised $30 million in new funding to help more people ditch their keyboards and get things done by simply speaking.
The funding round was led by Menlo Ventures, with backing from big names like NEA, 8VC, and leaders at Pinterest, Carta, and Lindy. With this round, Wispr has now raised $56 million in total.
From Silent Speech to a Full-Blown App
Wispr didn’t always look like this.
Founder Tanay Kothari originally started building a hardware device that could pick up words you mouthed — no sound needed. But over time, the team shifted gears and focused on software instead.
That pivot led to Wispr Flow — a sleek dictation app built for real productivity.
The rollout has been quick:
- Mac app launched in October 2024
- Windows version dropped in March 2025
- iOS app went live earlier this month
Loved by VCs, Built for Everyone
Since its early releases, Wispr Flow has quietly become a go-to tool for a lot of investors and founders in Silicon Valley. Some even say it’s become a daily habit.
“Every top VC I know is using it for emails, memos, docs — everything,” Kothari shared. “That’s when we started getting all the inbound interest.”
And it’s not just for techies.
- User base is growing 50% every month
- 40% of users are in the U.S., with 30% in Europe and 30% everywhere else
- Over 30% of users aren’t from a technical background — they just want a faster way to write
The app supports 104 languages, and more than half of its usage is non-English, with Spanish, French, German, Dutch, Hindi, and Mandarin leading the pack.
Why the Hype?

For one, the experience is simple. You just talk — Wispr Flow writes. No typing. No prompts. No special commands.
Menlo Ventures’ Matt Kraning, now joining the board, explained why the app clicked for him:
“Most input tools haven’t caught up to how fast we think. Wispr Flow changes that. It turns thoughts into words without friction.”
He was one of the app’s first users — and now one of its biggest backers.
What’s Coming Next
The new funding will help Wispr keep growing, and fast.
Here’s what’s on deck:
- Hiring more engineers and product folks
- Launching an Android app
- Rolling out enterprise features like shared phrases and team support
- Partnering with AI hardware makers (details still under wraps)
Long term, the team wants Wispr Flow to feel more like a personal AI assistant — one that knows your voice, your habits, and helps you get things done across messages, reminders, and notes.
TL;DR — Quick Highlights
- $30M Series A led by Menlo Ventures
- $56M raised in total
- Available on Mac, Windows, iOS — Android coming soon
- Supports 104 languages, with fast-growing global use
- Loved by VCs and non-tech users alike
- Future plans: AI assistant features + deeper hardware integration
Wispr Flow isn’t trying to be flashy. It’s just making writing easier — one voice at a time. And based on how quickly it’s growing, it might just change how we all communicate with our devices.
