Anysphere Introduces $200/Per Month “Ultra” Plan for Cursor AI Coding Tool

Cursor AI

Anysphere is introducing a high-end $200-per-month plan for Cursor, its rapidly expanding AI coding tool.

The company introduced the new Ultra plan in a blog post on Monday, a significant advance for coders seeking greater might and speed to access AI tools. The move comes after a period of high-speed expansion and growing competition in AI coding.

What Does the Ultra Plan Cover?

The new Ultra plan is for serious developers and teams. It comes with 20 times more use than the existing $20/month Pro plan.

What subscribers receive:

20 times more AI usage on leading models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google DeepMind, and xAI.

Priority to new features and tools before others.

High-volume power user dedicated support.

As CEO Michael Truell puts it, these benefits are enabled through long-term relationships with leading AI providers.

Cursor’s Rapid Growth

Cursor is fast becoming one of the most popular tools in the world of AI developers. In early June, Anysphere announced:

Cursor reached $500 million in ARR (Annual Recurring Revenue).

The product is being utilized by tech giants such as Nvidia, Uber, and Adobe.

Cursor was among the quickest startups to hit $100 million in ARR.

That pace doesn’t show signs of slowing. Since April, Cursor’s ARR has increased by another $200 million, according to TechCrunch reports.

Increasing Competition for AI Coding

As Cursor keeps expanding, the market is becoming crowded — and competitive.

OpenAI allegedly bought Windsurf, one of Cursor’s competitors, to enhance its own coding tools.

Anthropic is expanding Claude Code, its developer AI in-house.

Several providers are restricting access to competitors. Anthropic, for example, recently cut Windsurf’s direct access to its Claude models — a competitive play move.

Nevertheless, Anysphere is not giving up. It’s now investing in its own models to function alongside partner APIs. Last month, the firm launched its bespoke “Tab” AI model, which is intended to recommend code modifications on whole projects, rather than individual files.

Collaboration or Competition

Even with increased tensions, Anysphere’s collaborations seem to be intact. Anthropic co-founder Jared Kaplan said in an interview with TechCrunch that he envisions a long-term partnership with Cursor. And Anysphere’s multi-year agreements with OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and Anthropic indicate these collaborations are solid — at least for now.

But with more AI giants launching their own developer platforms, the pressure is on. Cursor’s new Ultra plan is obviously intended to trap faithful users before they switch to competing platforms.

Summary: Key Takeaways

Anysphere rolled out a $200/month Ultra plan for Cursor, its AI coding platform.

Ultra offers 20x greater AI usage and priority to features.

Cursor has now achieved $500M ARR and customers such as Nvidia, Uber, and Adobe.

Competition is intensifying, with OpenAI and Anthropic creating competing tools and technology.

Anysphere is creating its own AI models as well, beginning with “Tab.”

Long-term alliances can assist Anysphere in remaining ahead — at least temporarily.
